Supplies

The Supplies I use are varied & can be categorised mainly into 3 groups.

1. Swarovski Crystals

Swarovski has a great range of beads in many sizes & shapes. Their cuts in crystals show their color well and sparkle beautifully in light. Swarovski adds new colors every year & new cuts as well. Certain cuts have not been brought into Singapore. Either no size/no cut or no color. This is my greatest disappointed in my craft. However, I insist on Swarovski Crystals and have not substituted it for any brand. (If a substitute has been made, it will be stated in description)

 

2. Japanese Beads

a. Miyuki Beads ( JAPAN)

“Seed Bead” is a generic term for any small bead. There are various types in shape and size such as Round, Cylinder (Delica), Hexagon, Bugle, Triangle, Drop, etc. Plenty variety of seed beads are used in a multiplicity of ways to create works satisfactorily. It’s a very reliable brand and has plenty of colors to choose from. Picture insert is delica range.

 

b. Toho Beads (JAPAN)

Toho Beads produces the same type of beads as Miyuki. It’s all about finding the color you like when it comes to choosing between the 2 brands.

 

 

c. Matsuno (JAPAN)

Again, It’s about color & suitability when it comes to these 3 brands, with this brand ranked 3rd in my list. It’s a generally good seed bead producer but quality isn’t top grade. And it’s cheaper as well.

 

3. Tools

1. Pliers

A good pair of pliers is a good investment. You want to improve your overall skill with a good pair of pliers. It lasts, has good maneuverability & does not rust.

2. Nylon Line 0.25mm

This is commonly referred to as fishing line. It’s simple to find, easy to use & cheap to get. There are different types, Some claim theirs are stronger, but I have not tested. All handiworks should be dealt with carefully & gently.

3. Mr Beadsmith craft wire

This is something you can’t do away with when it comes to wire work. A good craft wire can make a difference between a “good” piece and a “okay” piece of work.

4. Round nose plier

The trick to round ends!  Invest in 1. Even if it’s cheap.

4. Accessories

1. Handphone Loop

A simple Loop for handphones.

2. Handphone Strap

A good Strap like wrist band handphone charm.

3. Keychains

A crystal embedded keychain is more elegant than the normal keychain.
